Old Man Cedar

When we purchased our place over 20 years ago....The property was so overgrown with Cedar that it actually felt like we lived in a dark rainforest. Wanting to open up the yard for the kids to play and make a space for a large garden....Logging needed to be done.  

The wise old Cedar tree with the creeping Virginia was commissioned to stay and has faithfully stood watch over the family through the years.

I'm quite fond of this wise old man!

The heat is on...

Heat is taking a toll on my garden.... The tomatoes are hanging in there, but the leaves are starting to curl. This is the first time I've noticed this with my garden...So definitely something for me to keep tabs on this season.

My garden cucumbers have pretty much bit the dust...Let's just say I'm not going to hold my breath for a miracle to happen. Looks like I will be pickling green beans this Summer.

On the brighter side, the greenhouse slicers are rocking and rolling...Super sweet, tasty and prolific. 

A little good Luck

 In many cultures around the world, the frog is considered a symbol of good luck.  

As they start to appear when the weather warms up and have traditionally been associated with new beginnings.

We are happy to welcome good luck to our garden!

Sugar Magnolia's

 This is my first time growing purple podded snap peas in my garden....

These little guys are blooming like gangbusters and the thing I like most is you can actually find them among the vines, no hide and seek games with these guys!

I will definitely be growing purple pods again ;-)

Feeling like a Princess

Feeling like a Princess today with my bucket of Peonies ;-) I really need to come up with another method for supporting these beautiful blooms. Toppling over, they were all bowing to the ground.

I couldnt let all that beauty go to waste now could I?

Empty nesters

The nest was built on the electrical meter by the back door and we have been monitoring the babies progress each time we go in and out of the house. The babies started to leave the nest yesterday. One by one, they each took that leap of faith and opened their wings to clumsily fly out on their own for the first time. By the day's end, all but one had left. While heading out to water the garden early this morning, I noticed the last little baby by the back step...He had bravely on his own taken that leap. A gentle reminder of where Troy and I are at ..... Watching our last baby bird leave the nest!

Really starting to bug me!

Most of the time I try to post about the Rainbows and Butterflies in my garden.. You know, the prettier side, but the reality is....My garden isn't perfect!

Whaaaaaaaaaat?  

Yes, you read that right! I'm not perfect and neither is my garden. 

Here's what happens when a girl turns her back for a couple of days.....

They've really been having a hay day and it's really starting to bug me... if you know what I mean!

Time to make an organic spray and see if I can turn this damage around......

Snow Peas

A new variety in my garden Schweizer Riesen Snow Pea

An update from an earlier post I did back in March

 While it looks like only half of these seeds sprouted.... I am more than happy with the Beautiful flowers that accompanied the ones that did germinate.

Shouldn't be too much longer until the peas are on.

Now to be fair to the seeds and supplier, I have battled moles in my garden and a long wet season this Spring.

I would be willing to give these open-pollinated peas another try.

Stealing the show

This Rebecca Clematis was added along the Garden fence last Spring...Rebecca is really starting to make an impression and is already trying to steal the show... Wow!
